Award-winning Tony Macaroni is offering Scottish kids whose education has suffered during COVID-19 the chance to brush up on their learning for free.

The Italian restaurant chain is teaming up with Scottish Online Lessons (SOL), a remote-learning platform devoted to giving pupils much-needed help to revise and get ahead after the pandemic.

Together, they will provide students across the country with subscriptions to SOL to they can gain access to online educational tools and support that will give their studies the necessary ingredients to get them cooking up an academic storm once more.

Around 100 subscriptions to SOL are on offer, and in order to gain one, a young person must be nominated by an adult. The adult should explain in no more than 200 words who they feel would benefit from this opportunity, and how they could thrive and develop with this support. Those looking to nominate can fill out the form which will be found not only in Tony Macaroni eateries but also across all their media channels.

Tony Macaroni Operations Director Jim Davidson said: “We know first-hand from speaking to our loyal customers in our restaurants across Scotland, how many kids in our communities have seen their education affected during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“So, we are really delighted to play our part and give something back to our fantastic young people, who are the future of this country. That’s why we’ve teamed up with SOL and can announce this opportunity to boost the learning of kids.

“Above all, we would like to thank SOL for their assistance in organising this fantastic opportunity and of course for their continued efforts to support young people. “

The ‘enhanced learning experience’ on offer has been designed by SOL with the Scottish Curriculum at heart, with the primary aim of narrowing Scotland’s attainment gap among young people between the age of five and 16.

The SOL platform works offline as well as online and the lucky winners will benefit from a step-by-step learning guide created by highly experienced teachers.

A spokesman for SOL said: “We are delighted to be teaming up with Tony Macaroni to give young people struggling academically after the COVID-19 pandemic the help they need to boost their learning. We are passionate about narrowing Scotland’s attainment gap among young people and our game-changing platform does just that by making learning outside the classroom simple and easy with each lesson delivered by a member of our outstanding Scottish teacher team.”
